A while back, a creative trip to a San Diego timeshare got cut short, leaving only a few days to paint.
I remember setting up in the dining room, adjusting the lighting, laying out the paints and securing the canvas – acutely aware of the time constraints.
With my research material in hand, I was ready to begin. My mind yammered on about, hey you need to get started – you realize you only have so many days. Why don’t you start already?
But something deep inside said, “Wait.” “Just wait.” I kept seeing and feeling some sort of change in how I was going to approach and ultimately design this art work.
The next day came and I sat ready to begin. And again, I felt these passing waves of “wait.”
Well, this really got the critical mind going. Oh my god what a ruckus! Still, I waited. Bit by bit, I began to feel the energy and see flashes of a unique way this piece would come through.
When I finally began, I experienced a profound shift. The energy expanded and flowed onto the canvas. And to put it lightly, “it was quite a high”. This flood of intensity continued, and “Stillness” emerged.
As I continue to experience these expansive states throughout my creative journey, this one holds a special place in my heart.
I hope that when you are rushed, challenged, or under pressure, you will take a moment. Notice how alive, active, yet serene the figure sits. Can you imagine feeling the same way? Let the bright airy greens and soft rose hues wash over you. Breathe deeply and discover the hidden calm–the quiet voice inside you.
And may you visit often – discovering and taking something new each and every time.
